If your VW has IQ.DRIVE, part of it runs on a camera behind the windshield. We replace the glass and calibrate that camera at our Rocklin shop.
Short answer: Nex Automotive does it in-house at its Rocklin shop, on Tiguan, Atlas, Jetta, Taos, Golf and ID.4 models, usually in the same appointment as the new windshield.
Lane Assist reads the road through a camera behind your rearview mirror. Adaptive cruise and Front Assist braking work off a front radar, and on many models they use that camera too. When the windshield changes, the camera’s mounting angle can change with it.
A camera that’s off by even a little can pull Lane Assist toward one side of the lane or throw off Front Assist. You may not get a warning on the dash, so don’t count on the car telling you.
Its windshield camera works with Lane Assist and Front Assist. VW’s workshop procedure calibrates it with a target setup in front of the car.
The IQ.DRIVE camera sits behind the windshield here too, so new glass means a calibration.
If yours has Lane Assist, it has the camera. Not every Jetta does, so we check yours before we quote.
IQ.DRIVE is standard on the SEL and came as a package on the S and SE. If yours has it, the camera gets calibrated after new glass.
It’s electric, but the windshield camera does the same job as on the gas models, so a new windshield still means a calibration.
Cars with Lane Assist have the camera, and it needs calibrating after a new windshield.
Once the urethane has set, we remount the camera and put the targets where VW’s procedure calls for on your model. Then we run the calibration through the car’s diagnostics and scan it again, so we know it finished with no faults left.
Glass plus calibration usually takes 2 to 3 hours. Drop it off in the morning and it’s typically ready that afternoon.
Thickness, tint, curvature and distortion all affect what the camera sees. We fit OEM or OE-equivalent glass matched to your VW’s spec, and we’ll tell you which one we’d use.
VW’s workshop procedure calls for calibrating the front camera after a new windshield. If an adjuster questions it, we’ll explain that while we handle the claim.
